The separated beams generate an interference pattern on the workpiece, which directly processes the workpiece to form a periodic structure. The size of the fine periodic structure varies depending on the wavelength and energy of the laser used, the irradiation angle, the properties of the workpiece, etc., so it can be processed according to the application. Direct laser interference patterning is different from laser-induced nanoperiodic structure processing using femtosecond lasers, and is extremely fast because it can process large areas.
