About This Product

A low-cost beam expander for CO2 lasers. ■Fixed magnification beam expander (266nm, 355nm, 532nm, 1,064nm, CO2 compatible) A fixed magnification beam expander expands the incoming beam by a certain factor. There are two types of expanders: the Keplerian beam expander, which is a combination of convex lenses, and the Galilean beam expander, which is a combination of concave and convex lenses. By expanding the beam diameter before focusing the laser beam, a smaller spot diameter can be obtained, making it an effective optical component for various applications including laser processing. We offer fixed magnification beam expanders with a variety of magnifications from UV to CO2. ■What is a beam expander? When laser light is focused by a lens, the focused beam diameter (spot diameter) is inversely proportional to the beam diameter of the incident laser light if the focal length of the lens is constant. In other words, the larger the beam diameter entering the lens, the smaller the focused beam can be obtained. In the case of laser processing, obtaining a small spot diameter means obtaining a high power density (or energy density), which results in fine processing with less thermal influence. Beam expanders are optical components that expand laser light, and are used in a variety of equipment including laser processing. Beam expanders usually consist of two lenses. The first lens expands the diameter of the incident laser, and the second lens converts it into parallel light (collimated light) and outputs it. There are two types of beam expanders: those made up of a combination of concave and convex lenses, and those made up of two convex lenses. The former is called a Galilean beam expander, and the latter is called a Keplerian beam expander. Beam expanders with diopter correction function allow adjustment of the divergence angle of the output beam. There are two types of beam expanders: those whose expansion magnification is fixed (fixed magnification beam expanders) and those whose magnification can be changed by adjusting the distance between two lenses (variable magnification zoom expanders). Using a variable magnification zoom expander allows you to change the spot diameter within the same device without changing the working distance, which is very convenient.
