■Product overview
FSG series force sensors provide highly accurate, reliable force sensing performance in a compact commercial package. This sensor features proven sensing technology using a special piezoresistive microfabricated silicon sensing element. The low power, unamplified, uncompensated Wheatstone bridge circuit design provides an inherently stable mV output over the 5 N, 10 N, 15 N, and 20 N force ranges.
Force sensors operate on the principle that the resistance of a silicon-implanted piezoresistor increases as the resistor contracts under an applied force. This series of sensors focuses the force from the object to be measured directly onto the silicon sensing element via a stainless steel plunger. The amount of resistance changes proportionally to the amount of force applied. As the circuit resistance changes, the corresponding mV output level changes.
The sensor package design incorporates a patented modular construction. The use of innovative elastomeric technology and molded plastic design provides an overforce capacity of up to three times the rated force (maximum).
The stainless steel plunger provides excellent mechanical stability and can be used in a variety of applications. A variety of electrical interconnection methods are available, including pre-wired connectors, printed circuit board mounting, and surface mount. The unique sensor design offers a variety of mounting options, including mounting brackets.
