About This Product

Optical fiber sensors, created by the fusion of Shinkosha's crystal and optical technology, are useful for disaster prevention and mitigation through the use of IT technology.

■OTDR-Optical fiber sensor disaster prevention system Features

・Since the sensor does not use electricity and does not require a data transmitter, it is highly reliable and there is no data loss due to failure. -Already used in the field in power, port, and river management. ・Information from scattered sensors is measured all at once in almost real time (once every 5 seconds). - Optical fiber sensors can be used in adverse environments such as mountainous areas, coasts, and sewers.

■Rain gauge (tipping mass method)

This is a configuration in which the reed switch of an existing tipping mass rain gauge is replaced with an optical fiber proximity sensor. The number of times the overturning mass moves is measured as the number of state transitions of the reflected light. The rain gauge does not use any electrical parts, and the optical monitoring line consists of parts used in optical communications, making it easy to construct a highly reliable system.

■Application example

Rain gauges can be connected to the same optical fiber as sensors for different purposes, such as warning water level sensors and debris flow sensors, via optical couplers. This makes it easy to build a comprehensive disaster monitoring system that centralizes information such as "rainfall amount and warning water level" and "rainfall amount and occurrence of debris flows.
