About This Product
Tape-shaped packaging material for storing, transporting, and storing semiconductors and electronic components individually. Embossed pockets are continuously molded into a tape-like resin sheet. After parts are placed in empty embossed carrier tape at the parts manufacturer, the tape is covered with a film-like cover tape (top tape), wound on a reel, and transported to the user.
Afterwards, when the user mounts the parts on the electronic board, it is used as a method of feeding the parts to the mounting machine (mounter). In addition to embossed carrier tapes based on resin sheets, there are also paper carrier tapes based on paper.
Although paper carrier tape is low cost, it also has disadvantages such as the generation of paper dust. Embossed carrier tape is used for extremely small parts used in mobile devices such as smartphones due to concerns about the possibility of contamination with dust. There are many cases where this happens. Another disadvantage of paper carrier tape is that it is difficult to form it deeply.
There are various types of resin sheets used, including the commonly used transparent general PS (polystyrene) sheet, conductive PS made by kneading conductive filler such as carbon black into PS material, and coating PS sheet. There are anti-static PSs that have undergone anti-static treatment.
Other materials such as PET (polyethylene terephthalate) and PP (polypropylene) are also used in some cases, but their use has been decreasing recently. PVC (vinyl chloride) was once the mainstream, but due to environmental concerns, the use of vinyl chloride has progressed, and it is now rarely used. The distribution volume is 50/50 between general PS type and conductive PS type, with only a small amount of antistatic type.
Future market trends for embossed carrier tape are predicted to be flat or slightly decreasing. Up until now, due to the miniaturization of electronic components, there has been progress in replacing trays and paper carrier tapes, but it is expected that the miniaturization of electronic components will reach its limit in the future, and replacements are expected to end. .
