About This Product

■Ultra-high sensitivity EMCCD camera iXon Ultra

Electron multiplier CCD camera with 1,000x gain. Extremely weak light imaging and spectroscopic measurements from deep ultraviolet to visible to near infrared.

■Product overview

iXon is an Electron Multiplying CCD (EMCCD) camera equipped with an electron multiplication function on a high-sensitivity CCD sensor for scientific measurements. With -100℃ electronic cooling and 1,000x gain, we will acquire weak light images at photon counting level at over 56 fps (512 x 512 elements). Additionally, by switching between the low-speed AD converter and CCD mode, it is also possible to perform long exposure measurements with a high S/N ratio.

■What is EMCCD?

EMCCD is a revolutionary CCD sensor that increases signal strength by multiplying electrons on the chip. In a normal CCD, electrons converted from light pass through a readout shift register and are digitized directly by an AD converter. On the other hand, in EMCCD, a mechanism called a gain register is installed after the shift register to perform electron multiplication. This makes it possible to detect weak light in a short time by applying electron multiplication, which can only be observed with long exposure using conventional CCDs. In addition to EM mode, iXon also has a conventional CCD mode (Conventional mode). You can also switch to CCD mode when measuring with a higher signal-to-noise ratio over a longer period of time, making it a highly versatile camera.

■Introducing BVF sensor with fringe reduction coating and EX2 sensor with high sensitivity to UV

When measuring near-infrared light with a back-illuminated sensor (BI sensor), fringing occurs due to the etalon effect within the sensor, resulting in striped patterns on the image, which is often a problem. BR-DD is the mainstream for reducing fringes in BI sensors, but it has the problem of high dark current, making it unsuitable for long exposures. The new BVF sensor is a high-sensitivity BV sensor with a fringe-reducing coating. It has the same performance as the previous BV sensor, but with significantly reduced fringing. A new EX2 sensor with increased sensitivity in the UV region has also been added.
