It has a hexagonal shape and is the most common nut for fastening bolts, and is used in a variety of sizes, from large objects such as bridges and ships to precision equipment. Normally, a hexagonal nut refers to type 1, and has a single-sided chamfer at a height that is approximately 80% of the thread size (nominal diameter). In addition, there are "2 types (both sides are chamfered at the same height as type 1)", "3 types (both sides are chamfered at the height of about 60% of the nominal diameter)", and 100% nuts (the nominal diameter and height are almost the same) The three types are also called ``Jamnut''. Highly functional products with locking function, galling prevention, and clean room use are also being developed. In addition, small size and even smaller small nuts are useful for making products smaller and lighter, and for saving space during work. The JIS standard for hexagonal nuts was revised in April 2014, and the type name and some dimensions have changed. In the future, there will be a move to a new standard.
