■Summary Andor's new iKon-XL is an electronically cooled ultra-large area CCD camera platform that provides a wide field of view sensor ideal for astronomy applications requiring long exposures. Patent-pending ColdSpace™ technology thermoelectrically cools the back-illuminated 16.8 megapixel sensor (e2v) to -100°C, eliminating the need for liquid nitrogen or unreliable cryocoolers. The iKon-XL 230 model uses an e2v CCD230-84 back-illuminated sensor and offers a very large 61.4x61.4mm imaging area with a 4096x4096 array format and 15µm pixel size, making it ideal for applications such as astronomy and X-ray and neutron radiography.
