A static charger is a device that creates a static charge on an object by generating static electricity.
Many environments and products are averse to static electricity, as it can cause sparks and noise in electronic equipment. For this reason, devices that can remove static electricity, called ionizers, and products that take measures to prevent static electricity, are widely used.
While static electricity is dangerous, it can also be used to cause objects to stick to each other. For this reason, a static charger is used to generate static electricity forcibly.
The shapes of these products include a gun-like device called a charging gun and a bar-shaped charging bar.
Static chargers are devices that generate static electricity and charges an object. Objects can be attached or adsorbed using the force of static electricity.
With static chargers, even insulating materials can be charged. Therefore, paper, vinyl, film, etc. can be charged and then adhered to conductive objects such as metal or glass. In this case, adhesive agents or tapes are not necessary since the adhesion is done by electrostatic charge.
Other uses include the suction of powders such as plastics and ceramics.
The typical static chargers charging method is based on corona discharge.
Generally, air is treated as an insulator. When high voltage is applied to such an insulating gas, a portion of it becomes ionized, producing electrons and ions. The movement of these electrons and ions causes an electric current to flow, and the insulating gas becomes conductive.
If the voltage is further increased in this state, the electrons produced by ionization are accelerated and their kinetic energy increases. When the energy of the electrons exceeds a certain level, the neutral molecules that collide with them are ionized, and the generated electrons ionize other neutral molecules, causing a chain reaction. When this happens, the electric current increases at an accelerated rate and eventually emits light with sparks. This phenomenon is corona discharge.
When the voltage applied to the discharge pole of a static charger is increased to cause a corona discharge, the surrounding air is ionized and a large amount of ions are produced. By attaching these ions, the target object is charged.
