About This Product

Au vapor-deposited film is ideal as a substrate for observing monolayers with a scanning probe microscope. This product is a substrate made by heating cleaved natural mica in a vacuum and depositing approximately 300 nm of gold on top of it. By appropriately heating in the atmosphere with a hydrogen flame or butane gas flame, we were able to form a smooth gold (111) surface. It can be used as a substrate for STM observation by adsorbing molecules, etc.

■Features

With simple processing, it is possible to create a surface structure with smooth terraces that are stable and oriented under atmospheric pressure.

■Applications

・For specimens for Au (111) herringbone structure and atomic image STM observation ・As a substrate for adsorbing molecules onto a flat terrace and observing the molecules.

■About heat treatment

In order to obtain a gold surface with a uniform Au (111) orientation, the customer must heat it at approximately 700℃ using a hydrogen flame or butane gas flame in the atmosphere before use. The surface after heating has a herringbone structure characteristic of Au (111), and has smooth terraces at the atomic level with an average size of 150 x 150 nm.
