■What is a bearing?
A bearing is a mechanical component that supports a shaft, etc. by contacting a rotating or reciprocating component. Bearings in general are called "bearings" from the English word "bearing" (bear = supporting, supporting). The earliest example of a bearing is an ancient Egyptian painting depicting a bearing being used to start a fire.Currently, bearings are used in a wide range of mechanical products, including devices with rotating parts. Because it is an essential component, it is also called the "rice of the machinery industry."
■Role of bearings
Bearings are used between the rotating "shaft" and the part that supports the rotation. Friction always occurs between the rotating "shaft" and the parts that support the rotation. The most important role of bearings is to reduce friction and smooth rotation.
■Types of bearings
Bearings can be mainly classified into two types: "slide bearings" and "rolling bearings." A plain bearing is a bearing that supports a shaft on a sliding surface, and has the feature of creating an oil film between the shaft and the bearing, filling it with lubricating oil, and allowing the shaft to rotate while sliding. It is resistant to vibration and has excellent resistance to high-speed rotation and impact loads.
A rolling bearing is a bearing in which round bars called balls or rollers are installed between the inner ring and outer ring.There are two types of rolling bearings: ball bearings and roller bearings. Types exist. Bearings with balls inserted between the inner and outer rings are called ball bearings, and those with rollers inserted are called roller bearings.
