Plunge cut type valve finishers are available in two types of reamer retention mechanisms: "NLC (Nut Less Collet)" and "Side Lock". The NLC type eliminates the clamp nut required for conventional collet chucks, allowing the holder body to be slimmed down and interference with the workpiece to be avoided, making it possible to approach the machining area easily and minimize the amount of reamer protrusion. It is also possible to adjust the runout of the reamer, ensuring stable machining accuracy of the valve guide hole.
Development concept/product concept
■Current situation and issues
For head valve seat surface and valve guide hole machining, which require high accuracy, the company has shifted from traverse machining using a dedicated machine to plunge machining using a machining center in order to reduce investment, but there was an issue of unstable machining accuracy.
■Development points
・In the plunge cut type holder, the NLC type uses a unique technology to eliminate the reamer clamp nut.
・The side lock type has a compact reamer blade deflection adjustment mechanism and a slimmer holder.
・Thus, interference with the workpiece can be avoided and the shortest reamer protrusion can be achieved. It enables stable, high-precision machining using the plunge method, contributing to investment reduction.
