About This Product
PPS resin: Resin with excellent heat resistance, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability
Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) is a thermoplastic resin and a high-performance engineering plastic known as a super engineering plastic. It can be modified depending on the type of filler used, and reinforced resins containing 30% to 40% glass fiber are widely used.
Utilizing its characteristics of heat resistance, flame retardancy, mechanical properties, dimensional stability, and chemical resistance, it is widely used in various fields as a material with a good balance of performance. The normal heat resistance temperature is 220 to 240℃, while the cold resistance is down to -20℃. It has excellent chemical resistance and is not attacked by organic solvents. It has excellent fatigue and creep properties, as well as good weather resistance and hydrolysis resistance.
It is a material that is flame retardant even without the addition of flame retardants, and also has heat shock resistance. In addition, it has good moldability and a high degree of freedom in the shape of molded products, so it is used in the electrical and electronic parts field for connectors and various electronic parts due to its excellent heat resistance and dimensional stability. In the automobile parts field, it is used for heat resistance and dimensional stability. Due to their stability and chemical resistance, metals, phenolic resins, and PA materials are increasingly being replaced.
In terms of moldability, progress has been made in improving materials, but the crystallization rate is slow and the resin tends to get into the mold parting line, causing burrs. It also has other disadvantages such as gas burns and mold corrosion, so it is also a resin that requires ingenuity by applying mold technology and molding technology depending on the mold structure, mold material, molding conditions, gas vent, etc.
We are able to minimize these quality defects by making full use of our PPS molding know-how based on our many years of experience.
■Advantages
・Excellent heat resistance and high temperature properties (melts at 280-290℃. Deflection temperature under load is 260℃ or higher (with glass fiber). Continuous use temperature is 240℃ (with inorganic filler). Thermal decomposition temperature is 430℃. Glass transition Temperature 88-92℃)
・High mechanical strength (high tensile strength and rigidity in a wide temperature range)
・Excellent chemical resistance (There are no chemicals that dissolve PPS at temperatures below 200℃. It is affected by some acids, but does not change against many solvents, acids, and alkalis)
・Dimensional stability
・Not easily flammable
・Excellent electrical insulation
■Disadvantages
・Unreinforced type is fragile
・Unfilled grades have weak impact resistance, so they are often reinforced with glass, carbon fiber, inorganic fillers, etc.
