About This Product

■Summary

Ergste 9.9007CN is the latest development in the high nitrogen stainless steel series. A long-standing goal has been to exclude nickel to improve biocompatibility. Carefully selected high-purity raw materials are used to melt Ergste 9.9007CN. As a result, the nickel content is less than 0.05%, and the microslag content level is extremely low. For remelting, pressurized electroslag remelting (PESR) is performed. Traditionally, the chemical composition of nickel-free high nitrogen stainless steel contained very high levels of 1% nitrogen and 20% manganese. Due to the limited solubility of nitrogen, higher nitrogen content tends to form chromium nitride precipitates. Manganese must retain nitrogen in solid solution, which also impairs corrosion resistance. Machinability becomes more difficult as nitrogen content increases. The solution to these undesirable effects was to replace nitrogen with carbon. In traditional metallurgy, high carbon content is a disadvantage in traditional austenitic stainless steels. However, when it is used in combination with nitrogen-carbon, it can solve the problems caused by excessive nitrogen usage. A balanced composition design is the result of careful and thorough analysis.

■Features

・"Nickel free" (Nickel max.0.05%) ・High static and fatigue strength ・Excellent corrosion resistance ・Non-magnetic

■Application

Ergste 9.9007CN is suitable for applications where high strength is required. Due to the growing need for nickel-free products, they are used in orthodontic wires, non-magnetic, nickel-free needles and spines.

■ Machinability

Due to strain hardening in the chip failure zone, machinability is inferior compared to conventional stainless steel. Parameters must be evaluated along with tools and lubricants to find the optimum conditions for the production process.
