Earthquake shaking reduced by 80%

■What is metal flow?

Metal flow is a phenomenon in which different metals are subjected to friction, but one of the metals softens and begins to move softly without wearing out. As a result of basic research with multiple universities and research institutes, we discovered a combination of "aluminum and steel" that maintains a constant frictional resistance even when subjected to repeated friction.

■Myudum® mechanism

Myudam® is a brace-type damper in which a double-structured steel tube slides like a sword and sheath. When an earthquake occurs, "metal flow" of aluminum and steel occurs in the sliding section, converting seismic energy into thermal energy and reducing shaking.

■ Strong against repeated earthquakes

In a full-scale house experiment with an 8-ton weight on top, seismic waves replicating the 1995 Southern Hyogo Prefecture Earthquake were excited 48 times. Myudum® is completely healthy and the house has returned almost to its origins each time. In a shaking table experiment that recreated the 1995 Hyogo Prefecture Southern Earthquake on a full-sized two-story house with Myudum® added to conventional wooden bracing, the maximum shaking was reduced by 80%. ■Prevent collapse by installing on the outer wall

Myudum®R has a thin design (body thickness 30mm) to ensure space for installing the insulation material. A well-balanced arrangement on the outer wall prevents twisting and collapse due to eccentricity. Thin design that can be equipped with insulation material

■Thin design Myudum®R

"Twisting phenomenon" is one of the causes of house collapse during earthquakes. An unbalanced wall arrangement will cause the force to concentrate on weak points, causing the building to twist and eventually collapse. In other words, to prevent twisting, a balance with no extreme weaknesses is required. Myudum has a thin design that can be equipped with insulation material. It enables wall placement that prioritizes structural balance without sacrificing the insulation performance of the house.
