About This Product

■Achieving in-situ Raman analysis of charging and discharging lithium battery materials

A cell for in-situ Raman spectroscopic analysis of electrode surfaces. A laser is passed through the hole drilled in the counter electrode and separator to measure the surface of the opposite electrode. The design allows gas generated during charging and discharging to escape from the observation area in the center of the cell, reducing interference with measurements.

■Line illumination and beam scanning ideal for in-situ measurements

Analysis that combines LIBcell charge and Raman imaging allows visualization of how the charging reaction progresses depending on location with submicron spatial resolution. The image shown at the bottom right is the result of in-situ Raman imaging of a graphite negative electrode. It was found that the charging reaction progresses from the part that showed high crystallinity in the discharged state. The laser beam scanning of the laser Raman microscope RAMANTouch/RAMANforce allows you to scan and image the electrode surface at high speed while keeping the cell firmly in place. A small hole is made in the separator and counter electrode and the laser is passed through to measure the bottom electrode surface. The analysis aims at the periphery of the opening where the charge/discharge reaction tends to proceed. By changing the electrode material and electrolyte, or swapping the negative and positive electrodes to form a LIBcell charge, it is possible to investigate the charging and discharging processes of various batteries in-situ.

■High time-resolved in-situ analysis achieved with line lighting

Laser Raman microscopes RAMANTouch/RAMANforce are equipped with an X-line measurement mode that measures only one line with line illumination. Acquires spectra from 400 points in a linear region (*1) from approximately 80 μm to several hundred μm or more with a single exposure. When combined with LIBcell charge, it is possible to perform multi-point analysis while continuously charging and discharging at short time intervals. *1: The length of the line illumination (length of the linear region) varies depending on the magnification of the objective lens. *LIBcell charge is a jointly developed product with EC Frontier Co., Ltd.
