About This Product

The XRD-Mill macron was developed specifically for preparing samples for X-ray diffraction (XRD). It is used in the fields of geology, chemistry, mineralogy, materials science, quality control, and research and development. The XRD-Mill McCrone is particularly effective for this analytical method due to its unique milling behavior. 48 cylindrical grinding elements gently grind the sample through friction. 48 cylindrical grinding elements gently grind the sample through friction. The result is short grinding times, little sample loss, and a very narrow particle size distribution. As a result, the signal in the X-ray diffraction pattern is peak-like and has a small half-width, allowing excellent phase analysis. Additionally, the crystal lattice structure, a prerequisite for meaningful X-ray diffraction patterns, is largely preserved and has few defects. The grinding container is a 125ml polypropylene jar with a screw-cap gasketless polyethylene closure. The jar contains 48 identical cylindrical grinding elements arranged in an orderly array in a choice of agate, zirconium oxide, or corundum. The grinding time for optimal fine grinding is 3 to 30 minutes. Sample volume is 2-4ml. Inside the grinding jar, 48 cylindrical grinding rods are arranged in eight rows, six each. With the circular motion of the grinding jar, the grinding pellets undergo frictional grinding, allowing the sample to be ground from <0.5 mm to several μm (typically <10 μm) depending on the sample. Since the sample can be crushed without applying excessive force, the crystal lattice of the sample is not damaged.
