About This Product

Mixer mills quickly and efficiently grind and homogenize small samples by impact and friction. Suitable for dry, wet, freezing, and cell disruption for DNA/RNA and protein recovery. For specialized applications such as mechanosynthesis, we offer unique solutions. Mixer mills are easier to use and more compact than other types of ball mills.

■Functional principle

By reciprocating the grinding jar mounted horizontally at high speed, the grinding balls inside collide with the inner wall of the jar to crush the sample. It also has a mixing and homogenizing effect, which is further enhanced when multiple small balls are used. Microscopic balls such as glass beads can also be used to disrupt cells.

■Application field

Mixer mills are used for dry and wet grinding of soft, hard, brittle and fibrous materials. Its small footprint, ease of use, and very short processing times make it an all-rounder in the laboratory. Mixer mills are suitable for research work such as mechanochemistry (mechanosynthesis, mechanical alloying, mechanocatalysis), milling of nanometer-scale ultrafine colloids, and for mixing and homogenization. It is also widely used for cell disruption for DNA/RNA extraction using bead beats. It is possible to process up to 240ml of cell dispersion for protein extraction and metabolome analysis. An important advantage of mixer mills is their high versatility. Some models have the ability to actively cool or heat the material, allowing for more controllable configurations than other ball mills. In the field of mechanochemistry, being able to control the reactions inside the jar is extremely useful. Depending on the model, it is possible to control temperatures down to -196℃ or up to 100℃. You can choose between 1, 2, and 6 mixer mills. Grinding jars and grinding balls come in a variety of sizes and materials.
