■Mechanism
When a short-pulse laser beam is applied to the surface of an object, the dirt film and the underlying oxide layer absorb the energy and evaporate or shrink away from the surface, leaving no residue behind. Surfaces (mostly metals) absorb very little energy and are therefore not damaged.
