Arc flash is one of the most dangerous accidents that occur in electrical installations and can cause serious harm to workers and equipment. When an arc flash occurs, the time it takes for the arc to be interrupted is directly proportional to the amount of energy released, and the incident energy of the arc flash determines the extent of damage the arc flash causes. ABB is a leader in electrical safety with the TVOC-2 Arc GuardSystem™, offering unparalleled optical arc flash protection equipment with the fastest reaction time on the market. The TVOC-2 detects the light from the arc flash that occurs and sends a signal to the circuit breaker within 1 millisecond. When combined with ABB's Emax2 air circuit breaker, the total arc fault clearing time is less than 50 milliseconds. If the switchgear is exposed to strong light, which can cause unnecessary tripping of the TVOC-2, you can add current as a second condition. The current detection unit CSU-2 is an accessory for the TVOC-2 that identifies increases in current associated with arc flash.
