■Telecentric lens

The principal ray of the lens is parallel to the lens optical axis, and this lens is used in most cases where coaxial epi-illumination is required. It is suitable for high-precision measurements because there is little numerical variation when measuring dimensions in the depth of field direction. A major feature is that the size of the optical image of the subject at the imaging position does not affect the distance (WD) from the lens to the subject.

In recent years, the movement of image sensors has changed significantly, and there are two main trends: miniaturization of pixel size and increase in sensor size. Both of these come from increasing the number of pixels to create images with higher resolution. By reducing the pixel size, you can increase the number of pixels with the same sensor size, but the area that can receive light per pixel also decreases, so a lens with high resolution is required to focus the light on that area.
