■Vision system

The O3R platform is a comprehensive solution for central synchronous processing of image and sensor information in autonomous mobile robots such as AGVs. The simplified integration and reliable interaction of cameras and sensors enables the robust implementation of related functions such as collision protection, navigation, and positioning. Additionally, stationary tasks for object analysis and dimensioning can also be implemented and managed more effectively using multiple cameras. This could be a measurement of a pallet, tree trunk, package or suitcase.

■Powerful and open

Sensory Processing Central Unit The core of the system is a high-performance computing unit called a video processing unit (VPU), which uses yoctoLinux on NVIDIA JetsonTX2 embedded hardware. Based on the Docker architecture, open development environments such as Python, C++, CUDA, and ROS are supported. Up to 6 camera heads can be connected to the processing unit. You can also connect additional sensors via the Gigabit Ethernet interface, for example to measure distance. All relevant "senses" that the AGV requires for safe autonomous navigation are therefore available at the central point.

■Camera head with in-house developed imager

Ifm also offers suitable and powerful camera heads from the start as part of the platform solution. The 2D/3D camera has an aperture angle of 60° or 105° and is equipped with PMD Technologies AG's latest time-of-flight imager. The ifm group of companies develops all sensors for the automation specialist's vision products and tailors them precisely to the respective requirements. Thanks to modulated infrared light, the 2D/3D camera captures objects with maximum reliability even when exposed to increased ambient light.
