The heat generated warms the entire spindle head, causing the spindle center to shift from the center of the column or head, causing thermal deformation. Thermal deformation affects machining accuracy and is said to account for 40 to 70% of machining errors. Thermal deformation occurs because different parts of the machine elongate at different temperatures, and by removing heat from the spindle head with an oil conditioner, the misalignment of the shaft center can be corrected.
