Types and features
■PS (polystyrene)
It is also inexpensive and is mainly used for general beverage labels. The biggest feature of PS material is its gentle shrinkage characteristics, which allows it to achieve a shrinkage finish that cannot be imitated by other materials.
■Applications
It has features such as perforation removability (film opening ability) and container conformability (film shrinkage prevention) for general beverages, food, toiletries, and others.
■Advantages
It has good shrink finish and perforation removability, making it highly versatile.
■Disadvantages
The material has low strength and is not suitable for thin film formation. In addition, it has poor resistance to heat and oil, and is easily deteriorated.
■PET (polystyrene terephthalate)
Although it costs more than PS material, it is used in applications that take advantage of PET material. PET material has excellent stiffness, heat resistance, abrasion resistance, and content resistance, and is used in products that cannot be used with PS material.
■Applications
Hot beverages, oil, aromatics, lids for pot roasting, dry battery packaging (2 shafts)
■Advantages
Due to its high strength, it can be made into a thin film (minimum thickness 20μm).
■Disadvantages
Poor shrink finish and perforation removability, and low versatility.
■HYBRID (hybrid styrene)
This film combines the characteristics of PS and PET materials. It improves perforation opening and shrink finish, which are disadvantages of PET material, prevents label racking in glass bottle applications, and lowers the cost of raw material. It also improves content resistance, heat resistance, stiffness, gloss, and dimensional stability, which are disadvantages of PS materials.
■Advantages
It has the characteristics of both PS and PET, so it is more versatile than PS.
■Disadvantages
More effective than PS (cost can be absorbed by thinning the film).
