■Background

Inspection of submersible bearings for pumps used to require the pump to be pulled up during periodic inspections and the state of wear measured. We have recently developed a device that can not only measure wear but also diagnose scratches, cracks, etc. from the outside without having to pull up the pump.

■Summary

Compressed air is sent into the gap between the pump main shaft and the underwater bearing (ceramic bearing) using an external compressor, and the differential pressure between supply pressure and discharge pressure and air flow rate are detected. By comparing this data with the measurement data at the time of delivery, abnormalities and wear conditions of the underwater bearing can be determined from the outside.

■Effect

・By applying the principle of an air micrometer and measuring by injecting compressed air, the amount of bearing wear can be detected with high accuracy. - Injecting compressed air into the underwater bearing has the effect of removing dirt and sand from the underwater bearing (cleaning effect). - Applicable not only to vertical shaft pumps but also to horizontal shaft pumps. ・Bearings can be cooled by sending compressed air during air control operation.
