About This Product
AEM (anion exchange membrane) water electrolysis is an innovative water electrolysis device that combines the advantages of alkaline water electrolysis and PEM water electrolysis.
While overcoming the weaknesses of alkaline water electrolysis, such as the low purity of the produced hydrogen, slow response, low load, and limitations of intermittent operation, this method achieves low cost without using expensive precious metals like PEM water electrolysis. Additionally, by stacking small AEM stack modules, the amount of hydrogen generated can be increased, so even if one stack fails in a large hydrogen production device, the entire device will not stop, allowing highly reliable operation.
■Generates high-pressure, high-purity hydrogen
It is possible to generate 99.999% pure hydrogen at high pressure of 3.5MPaG. The electrode reaction is the same as alkaline water electrolysis, but the highly corrosive concentrated alkaline solution is not used. The cell structure is a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) structure similar to PEM water electrolysis, and has excellent characteristics such as high-speed response, wide operating range, and intermittent operation.
■Realizes low cost with no precious metals required
PEM water electrolysis uses Proton (H⁺) as a carrier, resulting in an acidic environment and requires the use of noble metals in the electrode catalyst and gas diffusion layer, whereas AEM water electrolysis uses hydroxide ions (OH⁻) as a carrier in a weakly alkaline environment. Therefore, there is no need to use precious metals, resulting in low costs. Additionally, the system can be simplified because the amount of water discharged from the cathode is small and electrolyte circulation is not required.
■Since it is modular, operation can continue even if one piece breaks.
One AEM stack can generate 0.5Nm³ of hydrogen per hour with 2.4kw of electricity, but by stacking these stacks it is also possible to generate MW class hydrogen (from 210Nm³ per hour). Additionally, due to the modular design, if a problem occurs in one stack, only that specific stack can be repaired or replaced. Compared to large hydrogen production equipment, it requires less maintenance.
Since there is no need to stop all equipment, there is no need to stop the production line, allowing business continuity.
