■Safety and reliability with GERB spring elementsSpring elements use compression-wound springs and are used to safely support loads from structures on a project-by-project basis. The natural frequency depends on the vertical and horizontal elastic properties of the spring, the permanent load and the geometry of the supporting structure and lies in the range 1-5Hz vertically and 0.5-3Hz horizontally. The most economical support frequency is around 3-3.5Hz.

By precisely selecting the properties of the spring elements, dynamic forces can be reduced depending on the excitation frequency and elastic support. Active vibration isolation reduces the impact of vibrations on the environment caused by machine operation, etc. Passive anti-vibration protection protects objects supported above the spring element.

In this way, it becomes possible to protect buildings and sensitive equipment from ground vibrations. The spring element does not move or vibrate without external or internal loading, and the load-bearing system remains permanently stable.

The simplest spring element consists of upper and lower load-bearing plates and a compression coil spring placed between them. This configuration is cost-effective and at the same time has high performance potential. In any case, vertical load changes cause deflections during assembly.

This effect can be avoided by using precompressible elements. These elements are typically pre-compressed hydraulically at the factory to a specified height or designed installation load and held in this state by pre-compression bolts. This is an essential process when constructing the foundations of buildings and machines.

Spring elements can be designed with one, multiple or many individual springs depending on the vertical load. The characteristics of the individual springs must be selected depending on the field of application and the required load or displacement margin. If necessary, spring elements with integrated dampers may also be used.
