■Features

Home vegetable gardening is fun for both children and adults. An eco-friendly biodegradable mulch sheet that disappears like a ninja. NINJA mulch is a mulch sheet that decomposes and returns to nature by simply digging it into the soil after use. Unlike conventional mulch sheets, there is no need to collect or dispose of the product, so it is a product that is kind to nature and people. It is used in the same way as conventional poly mulch sheets, and is useful for controlling weeds, regulating soil temperature, and preventing fertilizer runoff during the crop growing season. NINJA mulch has a biodegradation rate of approximately 4 months, making it ideal for growing potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and peppers. As it is a single-use type with a length of 10m, it is recommended for those who want to try biodegradable multi-sheets or just want to use them. The sheets are gradually hydrolyzed by moisture and become finer as the harvest time approaches. After harvesting, the shredded sheets are dug into the soil, and the microorganisms in the soil decompose them into water and carbon dioxide.

■What is biodegradable mulch?

Biodegradable plastics have the property that they not only break apart, but also break down to the molecular level through the action of microorganisms in the soil, and eventually become carbon dioxide and water, which are circulated in the natural world. . The biodegradability of biodegradable plastics is assessed using internationally regulated test methods and established standards. The raw materials for NINJA Multi are PBAT (polybutylene adipate terephthalate) and PLA (polylactic acid). Both are biodegradable plastics and have passed international tests. In recent years, various resin products have been replaced as part of the "plastic waste reduction" initiative to reduce ocean pollution caused by microplastics.

■Past test results

Since February 2021, NINJA Multi has been cultivating leafy vegetables with double cropping in a field in Chigasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture, and conducting biodegradation rate tests under various conditions. Based on a variety of tests, including rapid biodegradation in 60 days and weed growth during crop cultivation, we have determined the specifications for a 0.014mm film that has a biodegradation rate of 4 months and high spreadability.
