■All-in-one for additive manufacturing

The Scan Field Monitor (SFM) displays information on all production-related parameters in less than 3 seconds at a time. And this is as innovative and creative as the 3D industry itself. PRIMES developed SFM and patented the measurement process for AM used in SFM. Thanks to its small special glass, compact design and innovative measurement principle, the SFM is a versatile, fast and portable measuring instrument for beam diagnosis and process optimization. The SFM incorporates glass with special markings. A laser beam scans the glass and the scattered light is captured by a photodiode. The measurement speed is faster than FM+ etc. Display the beam width on the plane, reorganize the beam path, beam position, vector length, and measure its moving speed. Pincushion distortions, merging of overlapping scan ranges and delays in starting and stopping the laser are analyzed using a special measurement scheme. This allows the laser to be synchronized with the scanning device. An external 3D mechanism moving along the Z axis can be used to perform caustic measurements and determine the level of the plane. The SFM is a small cube that can be installed anywhere in the workplace and is a new measuring device on the market.

■Practical level

SFM is suitable for scanner-specific measurements such as surface equilibrium, pincushion distortion, focal point misalignment, and position and marking speed accuracy. The device uses special integrated glass to detect scattered light and perform measurements, so it is not affected by light intensity. This makes it possible to reconstruct the light path and calculate the beam width at multiple locations in the workshop. All measurements are performed with high resolution and reproducibility.

■One device for all measurement work

The biggest advantage of SFM is that it can perform multiple measurement tasks with one device. This makes it possible to save time and costs even if you are not the person in charge of AM equipment, the manager, the operator, or the quality control person. Since it is compact and has wireless communication, properties can be checked from any location in the work area.
