About This Product

The PowerMeasuringModule (PMM) is a robust laser power meter system that can directly measure power on the production floor. A fieldbus interface allows easy integration of the PMM into the controller. Available on many systems. Fully automatic measurement and documentation are possible by connecting directly to the machine controller. This forms the basis for beam monitoring during processing and is an important component of quality assurance.

■On-site

PMM was developed for users specializing in laser processing. PMM can be used in car manufacturing plants to weld car bodies with solid state lasers (Nd:YAG laser, fiber laser, disk laser or diode laser). The system can be robotized to monitor laser power during pauses and standby times. During measurement, a robot with a laser processing head moves to the PMM measurement position and measures with a defocused beam. The industrial power meter PMM can also be used for macro-machining and micro-machining. Optionally, the measurement range can be extended from low output power to medium output power or pulsed lasers.

■Measurement principle

PMM is a calorimeter method. Therefore, it is necessary to irradiate the laser for a specified time. After just a few seconds of irradiation, it is possible to calculate the power based on three parameters: the absorber's heat capacity, temperature rise, and irradiation time. The measurement results themselves are not affected by beam size or beam irradiation position. The absorber is cooled using heat conduction from outside air, but the system can only take a limited number of measurements. The system administrator determines whether the next measurement is possible based on the temperature information of the absorber. A mechanical shutter at the entrance and a protective window protect the measuring device from contamination. When the beam diameter is 10mm or more, the maximum power density of the absorber is 4kW/cm^2.

■Reduction of measurement time

Integrating PMM into industrial robots reduces measurement time. By shortening the measurement time, the robot stop time is shortened.

■Display

Using the system controller, measurement result items can be displayed optimally according to the user's needs. The data transfer method differs depending on the fieldbus used.
