■What is Super Calendar?

The final step in paper production is called calendering. In this process, by calendering (pressing with pressure) the surface of the paper, which still has a few percent of water left in the previous process, it is possible to increase the gloss and smoothness of the paper, improving the quality of the paper. This device is a test device that can simulate the final process of paper production.

■Overview of Super Calendar

For super calendars, the higher the nip pressure, the higher the gloss and smoothness of the paper. For regular printing paper or art paper, apply a nip pressure of about 10 nips. At this time, the thickness of the paper will decrease. If you want to keep the thickness of the paper as low as possible, use a soft calendar. Soft calendering is a method of increasing roller temperature instead of suppressing nip pressure. This allows the nip pressure to be reduced by up to 1/5, thereby suppressing changes in paper thickness. This device can be used as a substitute for both the super calendar and soft calendar mentioned above. You can test calendering by setting a metal roll for a super calendar and changing the roll to a cotton roll or soft roll for a soft calendar.
