About This Product

■For those who want to conduct soil component analysisMulti-item spectrophotometers are used when conducting soil analysis in the agricultural field. Absorptiometers basically measure liquids (colorless and without turbidity), so they cannot directly measure soil. However, by using a soil solution extraction lysimeter, it is possible to extract a solution from the soil and use that solution for measurement with this instrument.

Three types of lysimeters are available, 30, 60, and 90 cm, depending on the soil depth.

■Operating principleA lysimeter is a suitable tool for extracting soil solutions and performing quantitative chemical analysis.

A porous ceramic chip for soil solution extraction is attached to the sample sampling tube, and a rubber capillary tube is inserted into the sampling tube to reach the ceramic chip. Ceramic chips can be used in many soil types and are made of a sintered material that does not react with nutrients. The soil solution is therefore unaffected by the chemical composition of the ceramic chips, and the test results are accurate and reliable. 

In a lysimeter, a solution can be extracted from the soil by creating a vacuum (negative pressure or suction) inside the sample tube that exceeds the tension of the soil water. This establishes a hydraulic gradient for the solution to flow through the porous ceramic chip and into the sample collection tube. Typically, the vacuum is around 60 cb (centibar).

 Install at least two lysimeters in the root zone of the crop to monitor the composition of the soil solution throughout the crop's growth period. One is at the bottom of the shallow root zone, and the other is at the bottom of the deep root zone. In order to improve the accuracy and reproducibility of the measurement results, we recommend performing the measurement at at least two other locations.
