About This Product
■What is carbon fiber?
As the name suggests, it is a fiber made of carbon. This fiber is made by carbonizing acrylic fiber and pitch, a byproduct of petroleum and coal, at high temperatures. When you think of carbon, you probably think of charcoal, but it is much finer than charcoal powder and has needle-like shapes when magnified.
The thickness of the needles, which are aligned in the same direction and hardened with a binder material, is measured in μm (1/1000th of a millimeter). This is made into fibers (bands). This is a technology that originated in Japan, and Japanese companies have a very high share in the world market.
CFRP is made by woven carbon fibers and hardened them with plastic. FRP is explained in terms of glass fiber, but FRP using carbon fiber is now called CFRP and is used in car and aircraft parts.
In order to make woven fabric, it is necessary to turn it into thread, and our company twists the thread into a thickness according to the customer's request. The carbon fiber we twist may be used in aircraft parts.
■Characteristics of carbon fiber
In short, it is "light and strong". Other advantages include excellent abrasion resistance, heat resistance, thermal elasticity, acid resistance, and electrical conductivity. Compared to iron, it has 1/4 the specific gravity and 10 times the strength.
In addition, it is resistant to friction and high temperatures, and conducts electricity, so it is often used as a component in industrial products. Despite these advantages, it also has the disadvantages of high manufacturing costs, difficult processing, and extremely difficult recycling. In particular, it must be said that extracting the carbon fibers from CFRP is extremely difficult at present.
■Carbon fiber recycling
Our company has the technology to turn carbon fiber waste into fibers. We acquired this technology using manufacturing subsidies from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.
