About This Product

SUSPA friction dampers are suitable for shock and vibration damping. All friction dampers developed by SUSPA are designed to achieve optimal motion or vibration behavior for the respective product application.

■What is a friction damper?

A friction damper is a damping element that converts the kinetic energy of a part into thermal energy, thereby mitigating harsh impacts and preventing the amplitude from becoming too large.

■Damper structure

A friction damper basically consists of a housing, a tappet, and a friction element that acts as a connector. The relative movement of the friction element between the housing and the tappet creates a damping or frictional force.

■Buffering power

The buffering force can be controlled by friction elements.

■Damper characteristic line

Friction dampers have various characteristic lines. They range from linear force progressions to soft starts and spring-supported characteristic lines. Therefore, we can create the ideal damper for each application case from a modular system. Buffer force is determined by temperature and speed.

A linear characteristic line is achieved by integrating two additional springs in the free-stroke damper (RD 18 FL). Additionally, this damper is equipped with a distance/position sensor. Sensors and evaluation electronics can be cleverly combined to provide signals that can be easily processed. Sensors enable load measurement and imbalance detection in washing machines, for example.
