■Magnesium (Mg) is an environmentally friendly material

We believe that magnesium is a material that plays a role in preserving the global environment. Magnesium is the lightest of all practical metals and has other excellent properties besides being strong. It is also distributed all over the world in almost inexhaustible quantities and is easy to recycle. We believe that by using magnesium in automobile parts, we can significantly extend the distance traveled per fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, which cause global warming. ■Thixotropy

A phenomenon in which viscosity decreases and fluidity increases by applying shear force to a semi-molten alloy to make the solid phase granular.

■What is magnesium injection molding machine (thixomolding)?

This process allows magnesium alloys to be injection molded in a semi-molten state (thixotropic). Pelletized magnesium alloy chips are heated in a cylinder and then injection molded into a mold without exposing them to the atmosphere.

■Features of thixomolding

- Pelletized magnesium alloy chips are heated in the cylinder, so there is no need for a melting furnace, making it relatively easy to change the type of alloy. ・High injection pressure and high injection speed improve surface quality and enable precision molding of thin-walled products. - Lower melting temperature than die casting improves dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties, extending mold life. - Molding is performed without contact with the atmosphere, improving the safety and cleanliness of the working environment. - Since there is no melting furnace, there is no need to pump out the magnesium when finishing work and stopping the machine, greatly improving the working environment. ・The molding process is environmentally friendly as it does not use flame retardant gas (SF6, etc.).
