About This Product

iFlute is a 3D simulation software package for designing customized flute shapes during the manufacturing process. By integrating both groove and reverse groove designs, designers can optimize the tool cross-section and the resulting tool design. The software option Constant Hook allows you to achieve a specified constant secondary angle along the entire cutting edge of a step or forming tool. The Straight Lip option allows for the grinding of the desired groove and produces a straight edge when grinding the drill point.

Starting with any edge shape and core depth, iFlute software can design a flute shape that meets these criteria and generate a custom wheel shape to match the flute shape.

■Optimized grindstone shape

iFlute has multiple functions to adjust the groove and wheel shape. One common scenario is to start with a perfect groove shape, but the generated wheel shape may not be optimal. For example, it may have a sharp tip (which will dull quickly) or be off centerline (which may put excessive twisting force on the drill). To correct this, there are software options available that allow you to fine-tune the shape and position of the grinding wheel. It also automatically highlights the differences that such changes have on the groove shape. Going back and forth in this way, you can refine the groove and wheel shape until you achieve the best result.

■Built-in support for formed grooves and dressings

After the wheel shape is finalized, it can be sent to the ANCA tool grinder for dressing and grinding. Dressing and grinding on the same machine is the most accurate way to create perfect grooves. Alternatively, iFlute allows you to export a DXF CAD file of your wheel geometry for use in external manufacturing or dressing of your designed geometry. For smoother and simpler wheel dressing, you can specify curves for the wheel shape that are approximated by lines and arcs.
