■Summary

Cognex's Histogram Tool calculates histograms and histogram statistics for captured images. A histogram is a one-dimensional function of pixel values ​​that represents the distribution of pixel values ​​within a window. A typical histogram is characterized by the presence of a peak or mode, representing the pixel values ​​found in the dominant window features. Noise effects from various factors, such as spatial quantization errors, print variations, irregular lighting, and electrical noise, can lead to peak broadening. Machine vision applications use histogram tools to determine pixel count, contrast, and brightness.

■Histogram tool can generate various statistical information such as:

・Number of pixels ・Average, median (midpoint), most frequent pixel value ・Min/max pixel value ・Standard deviation and square deviation of pixel values

■Pre-process images for analysis using image processing filters

Image processing tools optimize images for analysis by removing unnecessary or distracting features, increasing contrast, and removing noise. This critical first step helps ensure accurate and reproducible inspections as image analysis tools are applied.

■Cognex image processing tools optimize images in a variety of ways, including:

- Correct variations in lighting or shadows in images so you can work with clear images ・Filter out unnecessary or complex backgrounds to highlight areas to be inspected ・Prepare for inspection/detection by filtering colors other than the one required color ・Rotate or stretch the acquired image

■Cognex image filters and image conversion tools optimize images in the following ways.

Cognex image filters remove noise caused by lighting and low contrast, smooth and sharpen edges, and eliminate reflected glare. Cognex's image conversion feature converts image pixel coordinates to real-world calibrated units. ・Image conversion allows curved lines to be adjusted to straight lines for accurate measurements during inspection.
