About This Product

We have begun manufacturing "calcium substrates" to evaluate sealing ability.

■Past sealing performance evaluation

The sealing performance of organic EL was evaluated by actually fabricating organic EL elements and checking the deterioration of the organic EL elements. However, since deterioration also differs depending on the manufacturing conditions of the organic EL, it was difficult to say that the evaluation was purely based on sealing performance. Until now, although deterioration could be observed, it was not possible to quantify the outgassing, which posed a problem in that accurate comparative evaluations were not possible.

■After calcium substrate development

The sealing performance is evaluated by sealing a calcium substrate and observing the deterioration of the calcium. As the Ca thin film undergoes oxidation, its shiny metallic color becomes cloudy, and eventually it becomes transparent within a few minutes. If the calcium thin film substrate has an accurately specified film thickness, by measuring the degraded area (translucent or cloudy area) and determining the area, it is possible to determine the oxygen and moisture that have reacted with calcium based on the film thickness and density. It becomes possible to estimate and quantify the amount, allowing accurate comparative evaluation.

■Calcium substrate product lineup

"Calcium substrate" utilizes the properties of calcium to evaluate the sealing ability of flexible type transparent substrates (PET, PEN, polyimide, etc.) and adhesives.

■Others

・How to use: As the Ca thin film undergoes oxidation, its shiny metallic color becomes cloudy, and eventually turns transparent in a few minutes. When a substrate with high barrier properties is pasted on top of a Ca thin film, the time it takes for this change and the location where it changes will differ. This difference can be used to evaluate the barrier properties of the substrate. ・Since the Ca thin film has high water absorption, it swells by the time the film thickness is measured, making it impossible to obtain accurate deposition conditions. At our company, we prevent swelling of Ca by depositing aluminum on top of Ca thin film with good coverage and good reproducibility, accurately measure the film thickness, and calculate deposition conditions. ・For the base board of M1, we use the above-mentioned raw glass (E1) that has been precision cleaned (F1).
