About This Product

■What is flash chromatography?

Conventional column chromatography has problems with long separation times, low recovery rates, and denaturation of target substances. Therefore, flash chromatography was developed by W.C.Still et al. as a crude purification method that improves separation power, speed, and is easier to perform. (J.0rgChem,Vol43,29231978) The major advantage of this method is that it can achieve almost the same separation power as medium-pressure liquid chromatography in a short separation time. In reality, the column is packed with 15 cm of 40 to 63 μm silica gel, and the eluent is flowed at a linear flow rate of approximately 5 cm/min (approximately 10 mL/min for a column with an inner diameter of 20 mm). The time required for separation is 10 to 15 minutes, and samples ranging from several tens of milligrams to several grams can be separated.
