Fluid analysis software PIV

About This Product

PIV is an abbreviation for Particle Image Velocimetry, which is a non-contact method for measuring velocity distribution in a two-dimensional cross section. Since speed and direction are calculated simultaneously at many measurement points from the visualized measurement space through image processing, the feature is that it is easier to understand the spatial structure than a current meter. It can also be used when the flow velocity is extremely slow. Vectors (velocity and angle) can be calculated from the difference in the amount of movement of a group of particles in two images recorded with a small time difference. ■Main uses of PIV PIV is mainly used as a method to visualize the flow of gas or liquid in the following applications. ・Flow around vehicles and aircraft during wind tunnel aerodynamics experiments ・Flow inside the device (cooling effect) ・Indoor environment and air conditioning related to home appliances, etc. ・River/Coastal Engineering/Environmental Hydraulics ・Medical related things such as artificial blood flow and respiratory models ・Wind resistance/wind engineering for tornadoes, heat islands, etc. ■System configuration diagram Fill the space you want to measure with tracer (smoke or fluorescent particles). At this time, methods such as using a smoke generator if it is a gas or mixing fluorescent particles if it is a liquid are used. Powder particles with a particle size of several micrometers to several tens of micrometers are used for liquid phase tracers, and special smoke is used for gas phase tracers. Then, irradiate the laser sheet light onto the plane where you want to visualize the flow. This causes the laser light to be reflected onto the tracer on the two-dimensional plane that is illuminated by the laser sheet light. The flow is calculated by photographing the tracer with a high-speed camera and tracking it with fluid analysis software. ■Principle of calculating velocity distribution from images with PIV Particle images taken with a high-speed camera are analyzed using PIV software. Vectors can be calculated from the difference in the amount of movement of particle groups in two images recorded with a small time difference (speed and direction). In addition to vectors, it is possible to output streamlines, streamlines, turbulent energy, etc. Advantages and disadvantages of PIV ■Advantages ・Can be measured without contact ・Can be measured on a surface ・Reproducible ・Can also measure in 3 dimensions ■Disadvantages ・Tracer particles are required -It is not possible to measure areas that are not visible to the camera. - It is necessary to provide protection and warnings to prevent laser light from entering the eyeballs.
