■Description

The SA111 and SA111A are fully integrated half-bridge modules based on silicon carbide (SiC) technology. The half-bridge provides up to 32A continuous output current with microcontroller or DSP control. Protection features include undervoltage lockout (UVLO) and active Miller clamp.

■Low voltage lockout function

SA11/SA111A has a built-in low voltage lockout function. When VCC, HS or VCC, LS drops below approximately 9V, the output terminal becomes high impedance. When the supply voltage increases above approximately 10V, the output returns to normal operating mode. Additionally, to prevent malfunctions due to noise, a mask time of approximately 2.5 µs is provided on the high voltage side of both power supply voltages.

■Bypass

Proper bypassing of the power supply is required for proper operation. Failure to bypass may result in unstable or inefficient operation, or excessive output ringing. The Vs power supply should be placed in parallel with a ceramic capacitor of at least 1 µF and a low ESR (equivalent series resistance) capacitor of at least 10 µF per 1A of output current. The only types of capacitors to consider are those rated for switching applications. A 1µF ceramic capacitor must be physically connected directly to the +/-VS and power ground terminals. If the lead wire is even 1 inch long, there will be a lot of ringing in the output. This is due to the very fast switching times and the inductance of the lead connections. Bypassing requirements for the Vcc supply are less stringent, but still necessary. Connecting a 0.1µF to 0.47µF ceramic capacitor directly to the Vcc, LS and VCC, HS terminals is sufficient.
