■Features of Oya stone

A specialty stone from Tochigi Prefecture that is unique in its warm and soft texture. Oya stone is a type of pumice tuff that is mined around Utsunomiya Otani-cho, Tochigi Prefecture, and is a specialty of Utsunomiya City. Oya stone has a long history and has been used by people since the Jomon period. Because it is soft and easy to work with, it is used in a wide variety of construction materials such as foundation stones, retaining walls, earth retaining walls, stone walls, paving stones, tiles, and blocks. Compared to other stones, it has a beautiful texture that gives a sense of warmth, and is sometimes used in high-end buildings.
