UV adhesive is an adhesive that hardens by irradiating it with ultraviolet light, and its mechanism and properties are completely different from general solvent-based thermosetting adhesives. Mechanism of UV adhesive

■Unresponsive state

Adhesives contain monomers (or oligomers) and photocuring initiators. There are various types and formulations depending on the characteristics required for the adhesive.

■Photocuring initiator generates free radicals

Upon exposure to UV (ultraviolet) light, the photocuring initiator generates free radicals (highly reactive molecules).

■Polymer propagation

Curing begins when free radicals propagate to monomers (or oligomers) and cause them to polymerize.

■Polymer termination

By finishing polymerization at the appropriate timing, you can obtain a cured product with the desired physical properties. Typical thermosetting adhesives apply heat to polymers in a solvent, which crosslinks to form a cured product and dries the solvent, but the curing mechanism is completely different from that.

■In the field of masking

Dymax LED or UV/Visible light-curable maskants provide reliable temporary protection and can be easily removed by peeling or incineration. Dymax SpeedMask🄬 resin cures with UV or LED light, providing reliable surface protection not available with traditional masking agents.

■Examples of commonly used applications

・Air flow test ・Plasma spray and HVOF ・Grit blasting or shot peening ・CNC machining ・Chemical processes (plating, alumite, pickling)
