About This Product

■Summary

The MPQ7225A-AEC1 is a 16-channel, current-sinking LED driver. Each channel has a current rating of up to 200mA, and 16 ICs can be cascaded to create a 256-channel solution. MPQ7225A-AEC1 is optimized for animation or dynamic lighting applications. It employs 12-bit pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming and 6-bit analog dimming registers per channel to control each channel individually. The MPQ7225A-AEC1 has a robust, high-speed CAN-compatible differential interface and is designed to work between distant PCBs. The MPQ7225A-AEC1 features Adaptive Feedback Control (AFC) to maximize system efficiency. The output voltage of the preregulator (e.g., a step-down voltage regulator) is adjusted in real time to keep the channel-to-channel voltage to a minimum (300mV headroom at 200mA). Frequency spread spectrum (FSS) optimizes electromagnetic compatibility performance. The rate of rise of the LED current and the phase shift between channels can also be set digitally. The MPQ7225A-AEC1 can assist in system design for functional safety with fail-safe (/FS) indicators. It also features enhanced LED short/open protection schemes (hiccup and latching modes). Additional protection features include ISET pin short/open protection and thermal shutdown. When a fault condition occurs, the fault indicator goes low and the matching fault register is set. Compared with MPQ7225-AEC1, MPQ7225A-AEC1 further enhances system safety. During a system fault of an open or shorted LED, the fault register associated with the stored fault flag can be read repeatedly by the I2C host and can only be cleared after the host writes a W1C (write-1-to-clear) command. In contrast, the MPQ7225-AEC1 allows the fault register to be read only once and automatically clears it using R1C (read-1-to-clear), regardless of whether a system fault still exists.
