About This Product

■Summary

The MP2787 is a rugged battery management device that provides a complete analog front end (AFE) monitoring solution. It is designed for multi-cell series battery management systems (BMS). The device can support I2C interface or Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) communication. The MP2797 supports series connection of 7-cell to 16-cell battery packs with absolute voltages greater than 80V on specific pins. The MP2787 integrates two independent analog-to-digital converters (ADCs). The first ADC measures the differential cell voltage of each channel (up to 16 channels), the die temperature, and the temperature of four channels through external negative temperature coefficient (NTC) thermistors. The second ADC measures the charging and discharging current through an external current sensing resistor. Dual ADC architecture enables synchronous rectified voltage and current measurements for cell and pack impedance monitoring. When combined with the MPF4279x battery fuel gauge, the MP2787 achieves a state of charge (SOC) error within 2%. The MP2787 provides robust hardware monitoring alarm functions including overcurrent (OC) shutoff, battery undervoltage (UV) shutoff, battery overvoltage (OV) shutoff, and hot/cold shutoff. All these alarms have configurable thresholds. Internal passive balancing MOSFETs are used to equalize mismatched cells and can support up to 58mA. There is also an option to drive external balancing transistors (MOSFETs or BJTs). The MP2787 is available in a TQFP-48 (7mm x 7mm) package.

■Embedded dual analog-to-digital converter (ADC) architecture

・State of Charge (SOC) error of less than ±2% by MPF4279x battery fuel gauge ・Cell voltage measurement error less than 5mV ・Current/coulomb counter error less than ±0.5% Tightly synchronized current/voltage measurements for impedance detection
