About This Product

■Summary

The MP2651 is a buck-boost charger IC designed for series 1-4 cell battery pack applications. It can accept a wide range of input voltages (VIN) from 4V to 22V to power the battery. The buck-boost topology allows the battery voltage to be pulled above or below VIN. When the input is present, the MP2651 operates in powered mode. It measures the battery voltage and powers the battery in four phases: constant current trickle charge, constant current precharge, constant current rapid power supply, and constant voltage power supply. Other features include power termination and automatic repower. Built-in input current limit (IIN_LIMIT), VIN limit, and input voltage limit (VIN_LIMIT) prevent input power supply overload. This feature complies with USB and PD specifications. The MP2651 has input current limiting and input voltage limiting functions to avoid input power overload. This is in accordance with USB and PD specifications. In source mode, it supports a wide input voltage range of 3V to 21V and provides output current limiting with high resolution. In source mode, MP2651 can flexibly set the power discharge parameters such as input voltage limit IIN LIMIT, VIN LIMIT, power supply current, battery full limit voltage, output voltage (VOUT), and output current (IOUT) through the I2C / SMBus interface. Operating and fault status can also be provided via I2C registers. Protection features include overvoltage protection (OVP), battery OVP, CFLR OVP, thermal shutdown, and an adjustable timer to avoid continuing to power a dead battery. It also limits die temperature with adjustable thresholds to ensure safe operation. The MP2651 is available in a TQFN-30 (4mm x 5mm) package.
