About This Product

■Summary

The MP2672A is a highly integrated flexible switch-mode charger IC for lithium-ion batteries with two cells connected in series. This makes MP2672A applicable to a wide range of mobile device applications. When input power is present, the MP2672A operates in boost mode, powering a 2-cell battery in series. When power delivery is enabled, the MP2672A automatically detects the battery voltage and powers the battery in three phases: precharge, constant current power, and constant voltage power. Other features include power termination and automatic repower. This IC features a narrow voltage DC (NVDC) power structure. The MP2672A regulates the system output to the minimum voltage level when the battery is deeply discharged. This provides instant power to the system while simultaneously charging the battery through the battery FET. MP2672A also provides cell balancing functionality. This monitors the voltage across each cell and equalizes the voltages of the cells if the difference between the two cells exceeds a mismatch threshold. MP2672A has two configuration modes: standalone mode and host control mode. In standalone mode, power delivery parameters can be configured via hardware pins. In host control mode, power delivery parameters can be configured via I2C registers. Diverse and robust protection circuitry includes a thermal regulation loop that reduces supply current if the junction temperature exceeds a thermal loop threshold, and JEITA-compliant battery temperature protection. Other safety features include input overvoltage protection (OVP), battery OVP, thermal shutdown, battery temperature monitoring, and a configurable timer to prevent long-term charging of dead batteries. The MP2672A is available in a QFN-18 (2mm x 3mm) package.
