About This Product

■Summary

The MP2672 is a highly integrated, flexible switch-mode charger IC for Li-ion batteries with two cells connected in series. This makes it applicable to a wide range of portable applications. When input power is present, the MP2672 operates in boost mode, charging the battery with two cells in series. When charging is enabled, the MP2672 automatically detects the battery voltage and charges the battery in three phases: precharge, constant charge, and constant voltage charge. Other features include charge termination and automatic recharging. This device has a narrow voltage DC (NVDC) power structure. The MP2672 will adjust the system output to the minimum voltage level when the battery is fully discharged. This provides instant power to the system and simultaneously charges the battery via the battery FET. MP2672 also provides cell balancing functionality. This monitors the voltage of each cell and equalizes the cell voltages if the difference between two cells exceeds a mismatch threshold. MP2672 has two configuration modes: standalone mode and host control mode. In standalone mode, charging parameters can be configured via hardware pins. In host control mode, charging parameters can be configured via I2C registers. Diverse and robust protection includes a temperature regulation loop that reduces charging current if the junction temperature exceeds a thermal loop threshold, and JEITA-compliant battery temperature protection. Other safety features include input overvoltage protection (OVP), battery OVP, thermal shutdown, battery temperature monitor and a configurable timer to prevent long-term charging of a dead battery. The MP2672 is available in a QFN-18 (2mm x 3mm) package.
