About This Product

■Summary

This is a buck-boost charger for battery packs with 1 to 4 cells connected in series. It can charge batteries over a wide input voltage (VIN) range of 4V to 22V. The buck-boost topology allows it to be above or below the battery voltage, VIN. If there is an input, the MP2760 will operate in charging mode. The device measures battery voltage and charges the battery in four phases: constant current trickle charge, constant current precharge, constant current fast charge, and constant voltage charge. Additional features include charge termination and automatic recharging. The MP2760 integrates input current (IIN) limiting with VIN to avoid overloading the input supply. It complies with the USB PD specification. The MP2760 provides narrow voltage DC (NVDC) power path management. The battery FET (BATFET) controls an external N-channel MOSFET to regulate the system minimum voltage and provide battery support functionality. The device also provides a wide voltage range of 3V to 21V on the IN pin when source mode is enabled. The MP2760 has an output current (IOUT) limit of up to 6A in source mode. This complies with the USB PD specification. The device has configurable charge and discharge parameters (e.g., IIN limit, VIN limit, charge current, full battery regulation voltage, output voltage (VOUT), and IOUT in source mode). MP2760 can also provide status and fault information. To ensure safe operation, the IC limits die temperature to a configurable threshold. Other safety features include input overvoltage protection (OVP), battery OVP, system OVP, thermal shutdown, and a configurable timer to prevent long-term charging of dead batteries. The MP2760 is offered in a TQFN-30 (4mm x 5mm) package.
