About This Product

■Summary

The MP5056 is a hot-swap protection device designed to protect output circuitry from input transients. It also protects the input from unwanted shorts and transients coming from the output. During start-up, the output slew rate limits the inrush current. An external capacitor connected to the SS pin controls the slew rate. The maximum output load is current limited using a sense FET topology. A low power resistor from the ISET pin to ground controls the amount of current limit (ILIMIT). An internal charge pump drives the power device gate, enabling a power MOSFET with an extremely low 7mΩ on-resistance (RDS (ON) ). The MP5056 includes an IMON option that generates a voltage proportional to the current flowing through the power device, set through a resistor connected between the IMON pin and ground. Extensive protection features include current limit protection, thermal shutdown, and damaged MOSFET detection. Both current-limit protection and thermal shutdown offer configurable auto-retry or latch-off modes. The device also features undervoltage lockout protection (UVLO). The MP5056 is available in a QFN-22 (3mm x 5mm) package.
